The next time that a male coleague publicly addresses me as 'Madam Stella' at work, I will take off my blouse and bra so that those in our presence can see my hanging mammaries. I will stand straight and remain silently seething until my title is corrected.

I am a professional. I go to work as an academic not as a Madam. I would never publicly refer to any of those male professors or lecturers or students with the title 'Papa'. To Madam me negates my professional acumen.

I worked hard to earn my current title of 'Dr'. Not everyone will live to earn this title. Address me as Dr. Nyanzi. We are not on first-name basis.

Do not address me as Stella unless you have earned that privilege. And when you use my first name, for the sake of the gods drop the title 'Dr'. Do not ever address me as 'Dr. Stella' because I will scream as I correct you. Titles go with surnames.

And for heaven's sake never address me as 'Mrs. Nyanzi'. Nyanzi is my father's name. It is incestuous to refer to me thus because I can never be his wife. Professionally, I am 'Dr. Nyanzi'.

Only my friends are allowed to call me 'Mama Stella'. This reference has a history that my friends know well. Only members of my family, clan and local community outside academia are allowed to use my customary title of 'Nalongo'. Do not address me as 'Nalongo' in professional spaces unless you are prepared to be carried on my broad back. I can only be !Dr. Stella Nyanzi' or 'Dr. Nyanzi' to you.

Stop Madaming me because when I want to be a madam, I hit the streets in my red mini skirt and strut my stuff. On the street you can call me whatever, if you are paying your top shilling for my warmth. At the university and in my proffessional capacity, I am 'Dr. Nyanzi'. What schools did these male academics attend? Titles are taught in primary school. (Fuming!!)
