{UAH} FUTURE OF PRINT JOURNALISM
Edward P'Ojim,
What do you think about the future of print journalism in the face of the frontal assault by the internet and the social media jarggaurnaut as alternative sources of news? The New Day started just 9 weeks ago, amidst much fan fare, that it would be "independent" etc. Most tabloids and even serious newspapers in the UK are associated or linked to political parties, but the New Daily promised to be different, basically appealing to that so-called "silent majority" that do not support any political party and simply want to read "raw news" without any political massaging or nuancing. It projected a readership of 400,000 but has managed just 40,000, so has decided the project has spectacularly failed. This is the second newspaper to close shop in the UK. A few weeks ago, the Independent, which used to be third or fourth in circulation also closed its print operation and became internet based subscription daily.
