{UAH} Opposition to challenge decision to elevate SFC to independent unit

Folks;

By turning the Special Forces Command into an independent military unit, President Museveni has created a parallel army in Uganda. Mugisha Muntu ought to know a thing or two about how a military outfit may be formed. He's on the mark here, calling what the president has done illegal.

I would even say it's treasonous for anyone to create a military service independent of the national Ugandan Peoples Defense Force.

But Museveni has always maintained a side army.

Indeed, the main problem Museveni had with President Binaisa in 1979, when Museveni was minister of State for Defense, was that he was using his position and national resources to recruit and train a personal army, drawn from his western region.

Museveni was adding to the Fronasa ranks, his guerrilla group that had merged with others to form the Uganda National Liberation Army, UNLA, that removed Idi Amin from power in April 1979.

Today, Museveni knows he's at his weakest - slowed by age, shunned by major donors for vote rigging -, and he's most vulnerable, because a growing number in the mainstream army and his party, NRM, now see him for what he is: a life-president.

That's why he needed to add some insurance to continue in power. But that insurance, in his estimation, can only come from a military unit headed by his own son.

SFC is, therefore, a private army funded by the national treasury to prolong Museveni's rule. In any other language, that's treason.
