{UAH} Statement by Ambassador Deborah R. Malac on the Occasion of Ramadan

Statement by Ambassador Deborah R. Malac on the Occasion of Ramadan - Asalam Alaikum,

On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, I would like to extend our best wishes to Muslim communities in Uganda on the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the festive month during which Muslims around the globe reflect on and renew their faith. Muslims honor each day of Ramadan as a day of patient endurance through fasting, and each night as a night of gratitude through prayers. Ramadan is also a month of giving, as Muslims reach out to assist those afflicted by hunger, poverty, and disease.

In the United States, Muslims join their fellow citizens to serve the less fortunate, hosting inter-faith activities that promote tolerance and build understanding among religious communities. As an expression of appreciation for the efforts and contributions of Muslims in America and beyond, President Obama hosts an annual iftar dinner at the White House.

To all our Muslim friends in Uganda, I send our warmest Ramadan greetings. May this month of blessings be a time of contemplation and celebration.

Ramadan Kareem.
