{UAH} LIBYA: GHADDAFI (Version 2.0)?
I can hope for the best as we hear that Col. Ghaddafi's son was already released from jail since April 12, 2016 under a Libyan amnesty law. I imagined more complications if the death sentence given to him was implemented. His release is said to be a gesture to foster Libya's national unity and reconciliation. While it is true that Saif Al-Islam Ghaddafi had ultimately supported his father during the 2011 Libyan uprising, he is also the person who is said to have worked tirelessly to bring Libya back from a black-listed country to an accepted partner within the internatonal community.
While his father focused on building a lasting legacy on the African continent, Saif Al-Islam was ably mending fences with western capitals and the rest of the world. He is a graduate from LSE (the London school of Economics) and therefore partially immersed in global affairs.
An arrest warrant was issued to try Mr. Saif at The Hague, but his lawyer argues that his client has already been put on trial by his home country. The principle of double jeopardy disallows having an individual on trial twice for the same offense.
