{UAH} Mr. President - Save our water resources

Mr. President

Uganda has no adequate water resources!

I hope as a cattle farmer, you grew up enjoying Rwizi river resources, which as I write now might be a mere dream in the very nearest future!

There three to five major river systems in Kampala that can cool down the city a bit if NEMA act is followed to the letter.

Lwajara, Mayanja, Nsoba, Nakivubo, Kyambogo and Makindye river systems. I was in Ndejje crossing Mayanja and I was surprised to see Kampala pollutants where the river crosses Bomba – Ndejje road.

Village people and cattle get water directly from that river system which ends in Nabisojjo wetlands in Ngoma. And Nakaseke is developing a meat production facility!

With a heavy heart I am requesting you and your government to therefore act promptly to save this country another man made calamity. It will be painfull but NEMA should be provided with the necessary logistics to remove people from 50 meters away from these river systems.

I lived in Juba, I've a firsthand experience of what water resources means. Here in Uganda, I lived in Buruli that can have one rainy day in a year and I know what that means.

As a snap short, you will realize that Kampala Temperature have risen by a whopping 5 degrees Celsius just between 1979 and 2015. Kampala and Entebbe used to have between min-max temperatures of 16 -23 degrees Celsius.

Kampala today has temperatures ranging between 25 – 29 degrees Celsius!

Indexically and geographically it must then be worse for Ankole and Kigezi that have totally eliminated forests on rolling hills.

This is a disaster on a mega scale.

Rain is formed from evaporation mainly formed from forest plants, wetlands and river bodies which in a cycle system get water from forests!

Kampala though is on the edge – it is highly polluted with toxic gases. It is becoming hotter with every boda boda or matatu that is added onto the city DMC vehicles population. In New Dehli, Rome and elsewhere people have died because of past mistakes directly linked to reckless development plans.

Talk to farmers experiences in Kyannkwazi area if you have a chance to meet them - they are counting loses!
