{UAH} Beti Kamya 2007: Why I do not believe the State-of-the-Nation speech

I fail to understand why people bother to discuss President Museveni’s 2007 State-of-the-Nation address.

Isn’t he the same YKM that said the problem of Africa is leaders clinging to power? Then he took us on a 20-year-long indoctrination trip, with his Animal Farm-like â€Å"Political Parties bad, Movement goodâ€Â slogan, and when he could not sustain that any longer, didn’t the same YKM, turn around and champion the restoration of political party politics, out doing the others by registering his NRM Party before any of the proponents of pluralism?

I can never believe anything Museveni says. But, to be fair to President Museveni, he has told some truths – he once said that the only way the People’s Redemption Army rebel suspects will ever get out of jail would be through application for amnesty, no matter that Joseph Kifefe is ill and needs to get out on bail. It does not matter to YKM that Kifefe can die in prison, whereas Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi and his former deputies in the Ministry of Health were granted bail, weeks after Kifefe’s application failed, on account of their ill health.

YKM once bragged that he is like a chameleon and that he is the only person who can cause chaos in this country.

Forever in power
On that one I believe him. He also said that as long as NRM wishes him to stand for the Presidency, he will stand – you had better believe him, too, because NRM will â€Å"urgeâ€Â him to stand. Compatriots, pay no attention to his State-of-the-Nation addresses because they have nothing to do with what he intends to do, they are just events that have to be performed, what he will do will depend on whether the opposition will try to occupy their space,
