President Museveni hints on what may kill him faster
KAMPALA, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has ruled out any deployment of United Nation Peace Keeping Mission in Uganda so long as he is still president of the East African Nation.
"Deployment of UN troops is a vote of no confidence in in that country. I mean the state cannot provide security for it people among other key services. This cannot happen here and It will never happen when I am still president. If it happens then I may get a heart attack immediately," he said.
Speaking at Bank of Uganda 50th anniversary at Kampala Serena Hotel Kampala on Wednesday, the President said Uganda has the capacity to defend it territorial boundaries and provide basic services to its citizens estimated at 34 million.
President Museveni, 72 years old has ruled Uganda since he captured power in 1986 after a five years bush war. In February, he won a controversial election by 60 percent. The Uganda Constitution bars him from contesting beyond 75 years but there are plans being hatched to amend the constitution for him to contest for presidency in 2021.
President Museveni recently opposed the deployment of UN troops in South Sudan where President Salva Kiir and his former Vice President Riek Machar rival troops clashed killing now over people.
United Nations Security Council recently approved the deployment of 2000 peace keeper in Burundi, a move locals have resisted. Several have gone onto the streets protesting the deployment.
