{UAH} How Amama Mbabazi’s failed presidential bid, destroyed his Daughter’s Marriage
When Families are intertwined as long as the President Yoweri Museveni and that of former Prime Minister and presidential candidate John Patrick Amama Mbababzi, a fallout will close many doors and leave so many hurting.
Besides the many Amama Family members that have lost government contracts, the closed businesses, the most painful is the story of how his first and favourite daughter Racheal 'che' Mbabazi Kiconco's marriage to Patrick Kateihwaho has ended in divorce and an upcoming court battle. over custody of their 3 children.
Named for the Cuban revolutionary Ernest che Guevera, Racheal is Amama Mbabazi's first daughter and his favourite also known as the family strategist alongside her sister Nina. She has been married to Patrick Kateihwaho a staunch Musevenist for over 10 years.
Their marital problems started in 2013 around the same time as Andrew Mwenda's revelations on Amama Mbabazi's Presidential bid.
Patrick immediately turned his guns on his father-in-law accusing him of betraying president Museveni, at that same time Racheal was quietly acquiring a court order dissolving their marriage in court.
Here, she applied for a decree nisi seeking divorce with Patrick Kateihwaho.
A decree nisi is a document that says that court doesn't see any reason why you can't divorce.
This development came to light during Patrick's application for the custody of their 3 children at Nakawa Magistrates court Family Division.
Patrick was shocked when in her defence, Racheal said "The Applicant and i are not husband and wife. He was not aware of the divorce.
Racheal claims she left her Marital home because of the domestic Violence Meted out on her by Patrick and this she did for the protection of her children. Now the battle moves to who gets to keep the children.
However what is the underlying issue is the messy results of Amama Mbabazi's decision to run against President Museveni in the february 2016 elections. This issue split the young family into two and it was at the centre of the couples fights, as Racheal insisted on standing by her father and Patrick chose the president.
