MPIGI- Minister Without Portfolio Hajj Abdul Nadduli has ordered residents of Mpigi to beat up what he called fake investors grabbing people's land.

The minister was speaking at the closure of a three-day conference organised by the Promotion of Traditional Medicine (PROMETRA), Uganda, an NGO at Dr Ssekagya Institute of Traditional Medicine in Buyijja forest, Buwama Sub-county, Mpigi District last weekend.

Traditional healers across the country had met to share ideas on environment conservation and promoting traditional medicine in the country

Hajj Nadduli was, however, ruled out of order by Mr Ahmed Sseguya Kimera, the Mpigi District police commander, on account that he was inciting violence.

"People should not follow his advice. Instead, if such cases arise in their respective villages, let them report to police," Mr Kimera advised.

Participants, however, welcomed Nadduli's advice, saying that beating will help scare away encroachers and land grabbers.

Hajj Nadduli said although government has a role to play in protecting the ecosystem, residents have the primary responsibility to ensure the remaining forests are conserved.

""As you wait for government to fight encroachers and land grabbers, you should also use all available means to protect your land," he said.

The minister's remarks came after traditional healers, who live off medicinal plants found in forests, complained that government was not doing enough to protect the remaining forests, fearing that if nothing is done, the country is at risk of losing its traditional medicine.
