Former Devolution and Planning cabinet secretary Anne Waiguru is set to face stiff competition for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.

According to the Star, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua will announce her bid for the same seat in two weeks.

Sources who spoke to the newspaper said that there have been " six secret meetings" to discuss Karua's political comeback after she failed to clinch the presidency in 2013.

"Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba and businessman Kibuga Githigi met with Karua in April 2016 to convince her to run for governeor, and in the last two weeks, she has held meetings with businessmen in the area," said the source as quoted in the news site.

Her intended announcement seems to have been received well in the county considering they had been expecting her to vie for the seat in 2013 instead of going for the presidency.

Should Karua announce, then the race for the seat will be intense because Waiguru will have the full backing of the newly-launched Jubilee Party headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Waiguru has already made strides in her campaign after she sought blessings from elders in Kirinyaga to vie for the seat.

However, another section of Kikuyu elders rubbished off her perceived endorsement during the blessings ceremony where rituals were performed on her.

They claimed they had not been consulted.

Aside from Karua, Waiguru is up against Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitaru and Governor Joseph Ndathi who also want the Jubilee ticket.
