A Police officer attached to Kicuzi Police Post in Ibanda district is on-the-run after he reportedly shot a suspect dead.

Police constable Fred Muchasi reportedly killed Galaciano Mubangizi (32), whom he had gone to arrest on charges of threatening violence. But Mubangizi purportedly resisted arrest leading to a scuffle in which he lost his life.

Ibanda District Police Commander Denis Ochama says that Police has arrested Adriano Mweteise, the second police officer who had been deployed for the same mission while the hunt continues for Muchasi, whose whereabouts are currently unknown.

A Postmortem report from Ruhoko Health Centre IV indicates that Mubangizi's skull was shattered by the bullet and had bled excessively resulting into his death.

This is the second time in a space of one week that police officers have killed suspects they are sent to arrest.

On Monday, two police officers attached to Nyeihanga Police Post were arrested after they allegedly caused the death of two suspects; Mansur Tayebwa and Denis Ainamani, both brick makers from Shuku in Sheema District.

The two were wanted for receiving money by false pretense when they sold bricks to two different people. The matter had been reported to Police.

However, when Police Officers Prosy Kyomugisha and Patrick Niwamanya approached the suspects, they hid in a cave prompting them to release teargas with the hope of flashing them out. The suspects suffocated to death.
