MASAKA. Police in Masaka District are holding three of their own for reportedly shooting and injuring a suspect.
The suspects are attached to Nyendo Police Station in Nyendo, in Masaka.
The trio is accused of shooting and injuring Baker Ssansa, a taxi driver at Nyendo- Bukakata stage after suspecting him of transporting immature fish.
It all started when the trio ordered Ssansa, who was reportedly driving towards Masaka town to stop and he refused, which prompted them to shot at his salon car Reg. No.UAG 332N. He was hit in the back by one of the bullets shot at him.
Mr John Mwaule, the Masaka District Police Commander confirmed the incident saying Ssansa snubbed police orders which led to his shooting.
He was however rushed to a nearby clinic where he was successfully operated and the bullet removed from his back.
Ssansa however, insists that he was not transporting fish as police claim, adding that he needs police to compensate him for his damaged car and pay his medical bills.
Mr Mwaule however, said police intend to record statements from suspects, adding that they will be taken to court when police investigations are complete.
According to him, police will also investigate allegations that Ssansa tried to knock one of their officers on duty as he tried to stop him before opening fire.
