{UAH} IMAAM RULES OUT KNEELING
Brothers and sisters, there is a controversy in Masjid Answar in
Masajja Kibira Zone B , Busaabala Road, where our Deputy Imaam, who is
a Salaf or popularly we call a Tabligh, for some time has been
preaching against kneeling saying that it is against Shariah.
According to him, kneeling is only before God. So those kneeling
before their parents, husbands, wives, superiors, do it satanically
and it is un-Islamic.
I have been reliably informed that the teaching is not in Masajja B
mosque alone but is growing in and around Kampala.
One of our own who attended the Duwa/prayer for the late Yusuf Nsubuga
Nsambu which was held at his residence at Makindye, said, that the
teaching also irked President General of Juma and Zukuri Sect
Kyaddondo (Nsubuga Nsambu, was the son of the late Nsambu, the second
leader of Africa Muslim Community Juma Sect Bukoto Nateete, who made
peace with Kibuli and was replaced with the late Sheikh Zaid
Mugenyasooka).
At the same time, we were cerebrating Shukuru/Thanks giving at our
mosque secretary, Sulaiman Ssemakula, in Masajja Kibira Zone B , when
a former Uganda Muslim Supreme Council Secretary General, Sheikh
Muhammad Kibbanga (who has been ill for over a month), and now Masjid
Answar Imaam, ruled out his deputy.
Kibanga said that kneeling is cultural and not religious and that it
does not break Shariah. He said, what Shariah does now allow is
prostrating before Any person or thing other than Allah but not
kneeling.
That reminded me when the early Roman Catholic missionaries ruled out
"okukyalira ensiko," as Satanic and marriages started breaking down in
Buganda until Rome cleared it as cultural and had nothing to do with
religion.
What is your view? What is the view of the ullamae? Is kneeling a sign
of slavery and servitude? Is it a sign of gender imbalance or sexual
inequality? Should we import everything Arab or Middle Eastern even if
it has nothing to do with foundations of Islam i.e. Al Islam, Al Imaan
and Al Ihsan? What about our African traditions and customs that don't
contradict with five pillars of Islam, six pillars of faith and good
behavior? Food for thought.
