A man in Mbarara has earned himself 8-years in jail for aggravated robbery. Elias Mwebesa appeared on Wednesday before Justice, David Matovu in Mbarara High court.
Prosecution told court that on September 23, 2014 in Nyamityobora ward in Kakoba division in Mbarara municipality, Mwebesa together with another suspect still at large broke into the home of Nelson Tinkamanyire.
They reportedly beat up their victim before making off with his television set among other household properties. Mwebesa confessed to the theft, saying he was trying to make ends after his losing his previous job, where he worked as a casual laborer.
It is upon this background that the judge handed Mwebesa an 8-year-jail term at Kyamugoranyi government prison. In his judgment, Matovu said the convict will serve six years since he spent two years on remand.
Mwebesa broke down in tears as he was being taken away by the waiting Prison Warders. Nelson Tinkamanyire, the robbery victim welcomed the court decision.
Tinkamanyire said although the judgment will not take away the pain, it will deter other people who resort to dubious means to earn money.
