{UAH} FDC pulls Ingrid out of EALA elections

Anett/Frank Mujabi/ Semuwamba,

What is happening within the FDC? It seems to be so hopelessly divided internally. They can't even agree on who to nominate for the bogus EALA elections. Maybe the EALA is looked at as easy money so everyone wants to jump in or mount the gravy train. They earn millions of daloors for doing virtually nothing.

The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has withdrawn the party's secretary for Mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe from the race for East African Legislative Assembly seat.
FDC had controversially nominated two candidates, namely; Ms Turinawe and Florence Ibi Ekwau for the elections scheduled on February.

However, the party president, Mr Mugisha Muntu, without giving reasons on Thursday, said the party had decided to withdraw Ms Turinawe's candidature.
"This letter is to notify you that as a party, we are withdrawing candidate Kamateneti Ingrid Turinawe and retaining one candidate Ekwau Ibi Florence effective the date of this letter. We thank you for your urgent action on this matter," reads part of the February 22, 2017 letter signed by Mr Muntu and addressed to the clerk of parliament.
However, Ms Turinawe in response, said on her social media platforms, that she is still in the race for the EALA seat arguing that Mr Muntu has no authority to pull her out.
"I am in the race, the author of that letter has no authority to withdraw me. Waiting for my copy to reply," she twitted on Thursday.

The director of communications and public affairs at parliament, Mr Chris Obore, said they received Mr Muntu's letter.
"However, according to the rules of procedure, if anyone is to pull out of the race, the letter has to be signed by the nominee and his/her party secretary general. But in this case, the letter is signed by only the party president. That is now where the problem is," Mr Obore told NTV on Thursday.
