{UAH} HAVE YOU BENEFITED FROM THIS PARLIAMENT?

Friends,

Some locally elected MP's spend  their time listening and lobbying on behalf of their constituents in parliament. Some, like Hon.Nabilah Sempala, are active on Ugandans At Heart(UAH) Facebook group finding out what people really want. She consulted on the Sugarcane bill but some people were just abusing her instead of giving their thoughts, and who can blame them……abantu  bakoowu. But how many issues that are majorly affecting the country ever get changed by the intervention of your MP on your behalf? It seems that the major issues (the ones most people complain about/ are badly affected by etc) never get dealt.

Our politics is like the theatrics of the World Wrestling Federation. It is a skit with good guys and bad guys, and the outcome is already preordained. It's easier, and less disruptive for the ruling class to buy the politicians, and pass the laws that they want. Being in parliament now is all about making money, not solving national problems.

In the last 10 years I have been engaging people from Uganda through UAH , the recurrent major issues are: roads, poverty, schools, health care, security, jobs, agricultural development or lack thereof. I have seen no change yet a hell of a lot of people complain about these issues. Those are issues I would find worthy of causing a major revolt.  Yet year in, year out people just let it slide. People suffer daily.

Like it or not, the unfortunate fact is that we are always measured by our failures and successes. From Museveni in 1986 to Museveni in 2017, that's a long period of time and still not much change. And I doubt it is thoughtlessness behind the comments people make about not wanting any more money wasted on both presidential and parliamentary elections. There's a damn lot of stuff said in lots of forums by lots of people. I know that is not representative of the whole country, but a lot more people than you might think.

Knowing and actually feeling the pain of it are two different things though. It's all well and good to say we need to do something about it, until it affects one's own plan or pocketbook, then it's a whole different ballgame. Everyone knows that majority of Ugandans are having tough times now, but you don't find many MPs who want to give up any of their perks or take a cut in pay so that money could be restructured somewhere else. That's how selfish all MPs are including those opposing the government. Now some oppositionists are tearing themselves to shreds over representation in the East African Legislature. Hon.Alice Alaso is throwing smelly eggs to Ingrid; Ingrid is throwing smelly water to Mugisha Muntu;...just for only two slots in the EALA...Seriously????
