{UAH} Ingrid's admirable but losing stance

FDC iron lady, Kamateneti Turinawe Ingrid, put up a recognizable show in Parliament this morning while canvassing for support from members. It started with a hostile reception that interrupted her address for several minutes, turning the Speaker into a begging bag as MPs defied her call to order. They stood, they chanted, they shuffled from their seats in apparent 'defiance' of the Besigye defiance icon.

When she began to talk, she was firm and unshaken, which is good, but then she called them "pigs" and declared herself the winner, in true Besigye style.

At an election, being recognisable is a key selling point and here, Ms Ingrid is top of the range but she can't win. NRM decided against her in its caucus and in FDC, her candidature has remained a divisive factor. No need to say other parties and independents find her too strange for their liking.

But that she has an outstanding persona is not in doubt.

Her rival. Ibi Ekwau. who came before her received, a cheerful reception just like Matthias Kasamba who came after her. The two are set to sail through esp. Kasamba. When he was talking, MPs were heard telling him he needn't break his back-a done deal.

As politicians, we need to learn the science of marketing ourselves which starts with identifying the appropriate constituency and charming the electorate by identifying with them. Ingrid and her bosses have got it all wrong.
