Do people still remember these great songs of hope Africans invested in their liberation, a liberation that in many cases turned out to be false, in the case of Zimbabwe and South Sudan, so disastrously wrong.?. I ask this because I am going to participate in a debate tomorrow at the London School of Economics, University of London, on the question why Independence has been such a monumental failure for Africa. I am tempted to listen to these songs to give me inspiration for the debate. They bring tears to my eyes actually because we played the songs of Bob Marley and Sam Mangwana a celebration of Zimbabwe's independence in 1980 when I was in Moscow, USSR at a party thrown for African students by the Soviet Communist Party- and I was chosen to make a speech on behalf of all African Youths delegations..
