{UAH} LUWUM DAY: BRIEF STATEMENT.
LUWUM DAY: BRIEF STATEMENT.
Date: 16 Feb 2017
A few weeks ago I sent a detailed letter discussing the Luwum incident and Sgt. Moses Okello's role. So on this Luwum day occasion, I will only discuss very briefly about how the day can be applied today as Uganda moves forward.
For example, what would Janan Luwum have said/done about the recent Kasese Massacres?
And would anyone today do what Archbishop Janan Luwum did?
Back in February 1976, he was involved in two historic activities:
- Co-signing an open letter to the President together with all other clergy.
- At the same time he secretely collected a stockpile of imported weapons preparing to overthrow the government violently.
Based on the sequence of events that would unfold in the nations history, had Luwum succeeded in that last mission, the much dreaded Obote II regime would basically have been in place four years earlier.
So let us be very clear what was actually going on, who he was actually serving, and for actually what purpose.
It was another tribalism effort to bring back his brother Obote and they start their infamous Obote II regime.
As the Church House is today being renamed, remember that it is the Amin government that gave them those premises.
All those who perished in all conflicts and turmoil in this country's history, may their souls rest in eternal peace, and may this country always progress from conflict and tribalism, towards more economic development and prosperity for all its citizens.
