ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning potential investors to be wary of doing business with The Stafford Financial firm after a father and daughter say the owner took off with their life savings.

Valarie Stubblefield and her father say they invested money with Mark Stafford. Now he's disappeared.

"How could you be a preacher and you scamming people you know?" asked Stubblefield.

In addition to running The Stafford Financial Firm, Stafford was the pastor at the New Birth Power Plex Ministries in North St. Louis.

Bill Smith of the BBB said Stafford used his role with the church to find clients.

"This gentleman through his position as a pastor was able to get a lot of people to meet with him, trust him, and invest with him. It's a concern when you don't go through the proper channels," said Smith.

Stubblefield invested $15,000 of her 401K in 2015. Her dad invested $72,000 which grew to $91,000. But now they can't find Stafford. He's not returning calls, emails and hasn't been seen at his St. Charles County home or his church.

No charges have been filed but records indicate that Stafford was involved in a series of internet-based investment funds that have been targeted by law enforcement authorities.
