Beti Kamya blasted by NRM MP's, they regret accepting her into their party
Hell broke loose in Parliament today when NRM MPs turned against Museveni's new catch and Kampala Minister Beti Olive Namisango Kamya for what they termed as "her reckless arbitrary and high handed way of doing things" which will further dampen their party in Kampala.
"We know you were planted in our Government by our enemies to spoil it since it has always been your mission", NRM MPs one by one stood up to openly tell Kamya off in today's Parliament Plenary Sitting.
Parliament was deliberating on the brutal and bloody manner in which Nakivubo Park Yard Market Vendors were evicted by goons hired by one Ham and the Minister to greedily take over 1.5 acres of land on which the market was located.
The MPS were led by the Rubaga North MP Hon Kasibante Moses who put up a spirited fight tabling document after document to support his case as he was supported by other Honorable Members.
In her response the 60 years old Taryomwe Beti told Parliament that she doesn't take President Museveni's campaign of "Kisanja Hakuna Mchezo" literally and vowed to leave no stone upturned in ensuring that there is no "Mchezo in Kampala". She explained that Nakivubo Park Yard is an illegal market which past leaders had failed to deal with. "You must praise me for effecting what Government has been trying to do without success for the last 20 years," Beti added.
When tasked to explain her swift move against the vendors before the lapse of the 30 days ultimatum she had earlier issued, Betty said that she and Ham had gathered intelligence that Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was about to obtain a Court Order to stop Ham from taking over the land. "We therefore moved to preempt the Court Order," Beti naively told Parliament much to the irritation of MPs from both sides of the House.
Meanwhile, Parliament has tasked Beti Kamya to bring to Parliament a list of all vendors affected by the unfair eviction.
Parliament's Director of Communications Mr. Chris Obore on the issue said:
"Evicting citizens should never be the job of government. Citizens can only be relocated by government. This should be done in a planned way. Government should never side with the rich and powerful against less privileged citizens.
This brutality at Park Yard market is reminiscent of railway evictions. Leaders should care. Government has a duty to every citizen. Beautifying Kampala at the expense of the dignity and livelihoods of other citizens is poor understanding of good governance", he said
