{UAH} HON. JOASH MAYANJA NKANGI REST IN PEACE.

Photo: Hon. Mayanja Nkangi (RIP) with President Idi Amin at a public ceremony in 1971 where Amin as the new Head of State released all political prisoners who had been jailed by Obote for opposing Obote's 1966 coup against the Kabaka.

Sad to hear about the passing of an eminent national figure and respected elder Hon. Joash Mayanja Nkangi.

Condolences to his family, the people of the Buganda Kingdom whom he once served, and the members of the Conservative Party.

As we all remember, he was the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of the Buganda Kingdom during the 1966 attack on the monarchies. An attack ordered by Milton Obote who then proclaimed himself president.

A few years later when Obote was kicked out by Amin, and the president returned the Kabaka's remains for a solemn state funeral and declared a week of national mourning with all flags at half mast, it is the late Mayanja Nkangi who stood on a podium and told Amin: "The whole country is behind you, our redeemer."

May His Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.

New Vision factfile of the late Mayanja Nkangi.

(Note: Why is his life and contribution to the country during the Amin presidency mysteriously missing here?)
