What is the most dangerous city among the Nordic countries/Scandinavia?

Stockholm in Sweden is, but Göteborg and Malmö is also "dangerous". One death is of course one to many. I use quotation marks because compared to most of the world Scandinavia is a very safe region.

For a long time Copenhagen was considered the bad city of the north due to an ongoing biker gang war. They were lousy shots though, so a lot of shootings, some wounded but overall very few deaths.

10-15 years ago things started changing and Sweden exploded (compared to the rest of Scandinavia) while the biker gangs of Denmark realized war is bad for profits and they made a sort of truce/alliance.

Since 2013 Stockholm has faced 21 deaths by shooting, Göteborg with 17 and Malmö with 7. Just like the biker gangs in Denmark Swedes are in serious need of marksmanship and have since 2010 in total wounded 189 in Stockholm and 172 combined for the other two cities.

Compared with 6 deaths in Copenhagen since 2013 (30 wounded since 2010), 3 in Oslo (30 wounded) and 2 in Helsinki (10 wounded). Sweden is a terrible country. Stockholm worst Nordic capital for gun crime   Stockholm er Skandinaviens farligste hovedstad

In a global perspective the traditional Scandinavia is relatively safe and all have murder rates of less than one per 100000 citizens List of countries by intentional homicide rate by decade Finland has almost double the rate, but only 10-15 percent use guns for the deadly act.

For crime in general Denmark is safest, then Finland, Norway and again Sweden is the rotten apple. Crime Index by Country 2016

Iceland I have not included you, because frankly your population is so small, that whenever you do decide to kill someone, every decade or so, the rates explode.

That's a tough question. I would say that there are no dangerous cities there at all, but you have some zones and suburbs which may be more problematic than others, like Rosengård in Malmö in Sweden and perhaps Rinkeby in Stockholm. The reason for it is that you have a concentration of unemployed and rootless young males with immigrant background.

Some would say that that's the reason, but I don't think so, or not exactly so. In the 60s and 70s you had lots of Norwegians moving from the districts up north and west, to the capital, Oslo - and you had the same problems then. That was also the case with Finnish immigrants to Sweden around the same time. Most managed well, but some didn't.

I think we have to do with a universal problem and it doesn't matter much from where the immigrants come. Some don't have what it takes to uproot yourself and find stability in new environments. The reason for it are many, but I have an example which shows that it may be contrary to today's popular belief; that it has to do with some kind of a culture clash.

When I lived in the city of Bergen in western Norway in the 80s, I had to deal with some people who lived in a troublesome suburb. The police had to intervene there daily and there were fights and shooting and stabbing and wheeling and dealing all over. The reason for it was that the city council moved all social cases to this area.

My son tells me that it's all changed now. Everything is calm and relaxed - and the reason? Immigrants. Especially from Africa and the Middle East.

But all in all, the cities up there are calm and far from dangerous. Just be careful on Saturday nights because of the senseless drinking culture.

Copenhagen and Aarhus. Denmark in general is more dangerous than the other 4, although Finland has a comparatively higher rate of physical violence as well. Within Sweden, Gothenburg is nowadays more violent than Malmö. But no way are Swedish cities more dangerous than Danish ones, despite the (outdated) reputation that Malmö and Gothenburg have (IMO, this is rooted in the 1990s and early 2000s).
