The European project lies in serious doubt. The problem for the uk is the almost 2 million Muslim refugees who have entered Europe in the last 4 years, a majority of them in Germany. If they acquire European nationality many will, their likely final destination will be the uk. The uk is the destination of choice for 95% of refugees worldwide. Add to that nearly every new immigrant to the uk makes an immediate claim to the welfare system or becomes a burden on it. Free healthcare, child benefit, work credit and housing benefit including access to social housing become immediately available to all immigrants on low wages. This extra burden has to be met by increased taxation or reduction in public services. In contrast most uk workers abroad are highly skilled and make very little burden on local services or are retired people who take their pensions with them,
