Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati has claimed despite a few errors during the polls, NASA leader Raila Odinga lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In his response to the petition filed by Raila Odinga in the Supreme Court, Chebukati said claims by Raila that IEBC failed to take action against Uhuru for breaching election laws were far fetched.

Chebukati added that he had nothing to benefit from Uhuru's win as he had no interest in whoever won the election.

"The commission and I do not have a stake in the outcome of the elections at all. Throughout the election cycle, we were neutral referees. Our resolute mandate was to provide the electoral infrastructure for the people of Kenya to exercise their sovereign will to elect leaders of their choice," he said.

While admitting that IEBC faced a few challenges during the electioneering process, Chebukati refuted claims that the commission oversaw a shambolic exercise that controversially handed Uhuru the win.

Raila named Chebukati, IEBC and Uhuru as the respondents in the petition as he seeks to have the results overturned and a new election conducted.

He has labelled Uhuru and Ruto vifaranga vya kompyuta (computer-generated leaders) as he claims IEBC servers were infiltrated to hand Uhuru the win.
