{UAH} MUSEVENI IS NOT MUGABE BUT

CAN UGANDA BECOME ZIMBABWE
Welcome back from Juma prayers. I prayed at Masjid Noor mosque,
William Street, which is famously known in Luganda as "Ndibassa" or
"Ndibakaabya," which is "disputed" between the main stream Tabligh
faction at Nakasero, and the break away that sought refuge at Kibuli,
and between Nakasero and supposedly to be their allies, Old Kampala in
collaboration with some elements of Uganda Police Force. Elsewhere
outside the mosque, the talk is much comparing and contrasting events
in Zimbabwe and Uganda and although there are similarities,
differences are very significant.
For example, except in Matebeleland, President Robert Mugabe and his
liberation war veterans solved the land question, but here, the Land
Fund is heard in Bukanga, Isingiro ,Kashari and Kibale, and of late
Nakasongola and Nakaseke but not so much in the rest of greater
Luwero, greater Mubende, greater Masaka, greater Mpigi and greater
Mukono where much of the land is co-owned by Mailo land owners and
bibanja holders or customary and bonsafide tenants.
While the liberation war heroes are still in active service in
Zimbabwe, and are in command and control, in Uganda, they are being
phased out with an exception of the likes of , Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta,
Gen.Elly Tumwine, Maj.Gen.Pecos Kutesa, Gen.Katumba Wamala, Gen.David
Sejusa, where many prefer to retire but the state is reluctant to
allow them to go.
But most important, with Uganda's tradition of, after ascending the
throne, the new king kills or detains his brothers as potential
rivals, there was no ruling family. The role of the queen was also
minimal as our kings were polygamous and the first wife was senior
among equals. However, there a role of Namasole/Queen Mother and
Nnaalinnya/Princess Royal and Mutesa l's Queen mother killed hundreds
of Ssuuna 's children so that his son could consolidate on the throne.
In the case of present day Uganda, there is no doubt that the First
Lady's family played a role in national liberation. The late John
Kazzora, was one of the first Ugandan lawyers and struggled for
independence under DP. The son of Kaguta marrying from the Kazzora
family contributed to Middle Class connection at home and abroad.
Kazzora was known in Kenyatta family and even in England, for example
But other than Gen. Salim Saleh, the members of the first family may
not have played an active role in the combat liberation struggle. So
Museveni built the liberation army from FRONASA, PRA, NRA and UPDF
assisted by his comrades in arms not relatives and that helped him
very much to consolidate and become popular. However that does not
mean that he is a Philosopher King, to borrow from Greek philosopher
Plato, with no family. To do so will be pretence.
Therefore, the Grace scenario that has sparked off the crisis in
Zimbabwe, may not arise.
However there is a need for a collective solution for, from crisis to
crisis, which have paralyzed Zimbabwe. Now prosecutors and medical
doctors strike, tomorrow teachers', the other day lecturers, when MPs
go with 13 billion and at worse, some reject the 29 m/-, and C.E.C.
members and NRM Secretariat directors get five billion and many
decline even to do consultation work, then one may be tempted to fear
that with all the strikes, at one time, the country may be paralyzed.
All these and many others on Dream TV tonight from 9.00 pm to 10,00 pm
with Historical Kabandwa Mulindwa and on Salam TV from 11.00 pm to
12.00 midnight, Saturday 8.00 am to 9.00 am and Monday 2.00 pm to 3.00
pm, God willing, with Lameka Kayombe, President of Pearl of Africa
Revolutionary Party. Stay tuned.
