{UAH} Besigye likens Museveni to Kabila, says NRM MPs committed treason

Former presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, has condemned the ruling party Members of Parliament for allegedly violating the constitution of Uganda by removing age limit and making Museveni a life president.

Besigye was on Friday morning addressing national and international media at his office along Katonga road in Kampala on Uganda's political situation after the Uganda Parliament amended the constitution against people's considerations.

"We have a new and strange situations in our country this year… the most concerning is the attack on the constitution of the people of Uganda," he said.

Besigye explained that the attack started with trying to take away land rights and later on attack provisions of transition and peaceful transition of power.

"This one touches the core of our country. It's the spinal cord of the politics of Uganda."

He said Uganda has never had a peaceful transition of power and this is a matter that doesn't only bedevil the country but it's a challenge to many African countries.

"As we talk, our neighbours in DR Congo have a president whose term expired long time ago. Joseph Kabila is serving a term without any mandate and it has caused a lot of trouble," Besigye revelead.

He said the manner in which the whole matter was handled was clearly one which is consistent on the attack of private member's bill — private member's bills can't be bills that seek to attack the nerve centre of the constitution.

He cited the case of Mukono Municipality MP Hon. Betty Nambooze who has metals in the back arising from the attack on Parliament.

He further cited the case of Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake who was assaulted in a similar.

"After the attack, they said there were going to be consultations but those who tried to consult were attacked. Even those who tried to consult together were attacked. We had violence in and outside Parliament. In Rukungiri, Edson Kakuru was killed."

He went on: "We had blatant violations of rules of Parliament led by the custodian of those rules, Speaker Rebecca Kadaga. She was the lead attacker, violator of those rules."

He said Igara West MP Hon Raphael Magyezi's motion came on floor of parliament in violation rules. Rules were violated from the beginning up to the end.

"Hon. Medard Ssegona and his colleagues came to Parliament to present summons to the Speaker and they were violently arrested and assaulted."

"We saw the Parliament taken over by dubious security operations camping in the chapel of Parliament."

Besigye says as if all this abuse wasn't enough, the disgraceful MPs, who were the tools of this attack, extended their life in Parliament as part of their payment.

"Nobody had ever talked about term of office of Parliament. This was part of the transaction."

He recalled that consultations of NRM were largely private. NRM MPs were seen on social media in some dubious rooms with procured people wearing some yellow ribbons.

"We are united here to condemn what happened in Parliament."

He quoted chapter 3 (2) of the Constitution which states: "Any person who, singly or in concert with others, by any violent or other unlawful means, suspends, overthrows, abrogates or amends this Constitution or any part of it or attempts to do any such act, commits the offence of treason."

"You now know people who have committed treason to the people of Uganda. They did it in broad day light."

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that  we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic  and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
