NRM rebel MP under arrest

PARLIAMENT BUYAGA County MP Barnabas Tinkasimire was arrested yesterday for alleged theft and causing financial loss.  Several MPs protested the manner in which he was detained.  Mr Tinkasimire is one of the dissenting NRM legislators now termed the "rebel MPs." The MP was arrested by the IGG for reportedly stealing Shs2.5 million in January 2006 and causing financial loss of Shs6.31 million in September 2005 when he was assistant chief administrative officer for Tororo District.  Several MPs rushed to his aid and protested the manner in which he was detained saying this was just a case of political persecution.  "We are protesting because he has privileges, the summons should have been served through the Speaker's office," said Kinkizi East MP Chris Baryomunsi.  Speaker Edward Sekandi said he wasn't aware of the arrest but he would investigate.
