He's helped develop a new constitution and judicial system in Afghanistan. News outlets like The Guardian and Foreign Policy have published his articles on some of the most pressing issues. The former USAID chief of policy, planning, and learning has not only worn a multitude of hats at some of the leading development institutions, he's witnessed the rise of the new era of global development from up close.

As Assistant to the Administrator for Afghanistan and Pakistan Affairs, he managed USAID's multibillion dollar assistance programme and more than 1000 staff across the world. Last year, Alex joined the Overseas Development Institute as Executive Director bringing his leadership experience from moving several international initiatives - including the Vision to End Extreme Poverty and the first ever US–China agreement on global development cooperation - into action.

At Devex World, you'll hear him share his outlook on the global development landscape of today, how we can ensure that the Sustainable Development Goals leave no one behind, and the role of new players redefining how we think, deliver and measure the impact of aid.
