{UAH} Mr. Owana/Abbey: help about the state of the music industry in Uganda
Mr. Owana/Abbey/anyone
Folks, help with the following information about the music industry in Uganda.
1). Who are the leading music entrepreneurs/promoters? (e.g. Meshach Ssemakula/Eagles etc.?
2) What are the major music groups-do not worry about the famed Afrigo- but YKM era ones?
3). Who are the top ten female and male musicians in Uganda? Granted, it is subjective but try your best. Again ignore icons like the composter of Obangaina with Afrigo.
4) What is the reserve price for top musicians? For example, how much would it take to be entertained at a private function by inspirational musicians like Ms. Maureen Nantume and others? Put if this way suppose someone wanted to hire Ms. Maureen Nantume to perform at the Frosh/First year party for Mitchell Hall students, how much must one pay? I mention Ms. Maureen Nantume because of her fascinating story, credibility and motivational credentials, but there are many others.
5) What are the top live music venues in Uganda-outside and inside?
6) Do Ugandan musicians have an industry group that promotes and protests their interests? If so what is the name and how can they be reached? Relatedly, have Ugandan musicians formed some sort of cooperative to support upcoming musicians and prepare for old age?
7) What is the state of copyright law in Uganda with respect to pirated music?
8) What are the major challenges facing Ugandan musicians-financially, organizationally etc.?
9) Who are the leading entertainment lawyers, if any, in Uganda? Which players -lawyers, organized music groups, promoters-are more likely to represent and negotiate on behalf of musicians?
10) Overall, what is the state of the music industry in Uganda? Is it saturated with too many music groups/promoters or does it need consolidation/groups with deeper pockets? From what I see, Ugandan musicians are finally being paid for their talents. Great. But are they fairly compensated? Why or why not?
Abbey, I am hoping you know some music industry players so help to get their views. Anyone who can help please do so.
Mr. Owana, help from the ground if you can.
WBK
