- In the ruling, the judge declared Miguna's deportation illegal and ordered the government to hand over his passport so that he can return to the country from Canada
- Aggrieved by Kimaru's ruling, the government moved to appeal arguing Miguna's return was not in the best interest of the nation Jubilee politicians from the Mount Kenya region have sharply disagreed with Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i over deportation of controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna.

Addressing the media in Meru on Friday, February 16, Meru county senator Mithika Linturi and Buuri Member of Parliament (MP) Rindikiri Mugambi held that senior state officers were openly defying court orders and that this could set bad precedence for the country.

"It is not up to state officers, whether a minister, police office, whoever it is, to say that I will not be bound by a court order. This we must say no to," Senator Linturi said.

The senator argued allowing government officials and institutions to disregard court orders and show disrespect for the Judiciary could lead to anarchy and chaos and therefore must be stopped. "We cannot sit back and watch as Kenya degenerate to anarchy. If there is anything we must fight for, then it's the independence and non-interference of the Judiciary," he said.

Mt Kenya region sharply disagree with Matiang'i over Miguna's deportation Buuri Member of Parliament Rindikiri Mugambi called on politicians and state officers to respect the law and the Constitution.

Linturi's sentiments were echoed by Mugambi who also said leaders from both sides of the political divided (Jubilee Party and National Super Alliance coalition) and state officials should respect the Constitution and the law. "The freedom that we have been given by the Constitution aught not to be misused by either the government or the opposition. Holding a powerful position in government should not mean you can now interfere with other arms of the government," he said.

The two central Kenya politicians praised High Court Justice Luka Kimaru for his ruling on Miguna's deportation. As was previously reported by TUKO.co.ke, Kimaru, in his ruling, declared Miguna's deportation illegal and ordered the government to hand over his passport so that he can return to the country.

Angered by the ruling, the government moved to appeal, arguing that Miguna's return to Kenya from Canada was not in the best interest of the nation. "We believe the ruling by Luka Kimaru, which further directs the Director of Immigration Services to surrender Miguna's illegally acquired Kenyan passport to the court within seven days is not in the best interest of the country," a statement issued by the Interior Ministry in reaction to Kimaru's ruling read in part.
