Professor Johnbull speaks to slay queens

Ademola Olonilua

On this week's episode of the popular television sitcom, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by Globacom, the lead character of the comedy series speaks to the slay queens of the society.

Slay queen is a slang used to describe a young lady who hinges her social acceptability on falsehood and vain glory.

The episode titled, Pepper Dem Gang, is both hilarious and educating as usual. Its lead character, Professor Johnbull, a role interpreted by Nollywood veteran, Kanayo O. Kanayo, does a critique of the concept of slay queens.

Professor Johnbull wondered why some ladies celebrate their birthdays more than once in a year and are dressed to kill; though, bereft of the reality of the image they project and why slay queens' appellations are different from their original names.

In this episode, veteran TV drama character, Chief Chika Okpala, popularly known as Zebrudayah, makes a cameo appearance in the episode while Ese Eriata, former fake housemate of the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, portrays the role of the biggest slay queen in the episode. She goes up against the drama series' constant slay queen.

Lovers of the series will also find out if the concept of slay queen is indicative of the Nigerian culture or not, whether the intelligence quotient of the slay queens tally with their fake public image as they also discover the remote and immediate meanings of slay queens.
