A senior two student of Nyaruhanga high school in Rubanda district has been killed by fellow students over a missing school bag.

Anselm Niwahereza aged 15, died on Tuesday evening while another an unidentified student is admitted at Junamagara ministries clinic in critical condition after being reportedly clobbered by fellow students.

It all started on Friday when students of Rubanda high school stormed Nyaruhanga high school demanding for the return of the missing school bag. They accused a student of Nyaruhanga of stealing the bag.

Gad Ngabirano, the father of the deceased

The rowdy students were however dispersed by anti-riot police. Yesterday, Tuesday evening some students of Rubanda returned to Nyaruhanga armed with machetes, hoes, stones and clubs. A scuffle erupted between the students resulting in the death of Niwahereza who died on spot.

Gad Ngabirano, the father of the deceased, says that he was notified about his son's death by good Samaritans late in the night. Ngabirano explains that he tried to make a phone call to the school administration head teacher about the matter, in vain.

Ngabirano wants both schools to meet burial costs of his son. Police is currently deployed at both schools. Tai Ramadhan, the Rubanda district police commander, says that the matter is being investigated.

Nathan Twinomujuni, the headteacher of Nyaruhanga high school declined to comment on the matter saying that he was in a meeting.
