Kabale: Couple in coma after being shot by assailant

Two people in Kabale are in coma at Kabale regional referral hospital after an alleged assassination attempt.

The incident happened on Tuesday 14/8/2018 at around 20:40pm along Kabale – Katuna highway in Bataka cell, Kirigime ward, southern division, Kabale Municipality, Kabale district.

 The two victims are Mr. Baryarugamu Francis, 64 years, a businessmanand wife Baryarugamu Zam are residents of Igabiro cell, Mwanjari, southern division, Kabale Municipality.

They were attacked by a man dressed in civilian attire, armed with a rifle. The assassin demanded a polythene bag they were carrying before shooting Francis once on the pelvic and twice on his wife Zam on the chest.

The assailant grabbed the polythene bag which had watermelon inside. On realizing the polythene bag had watermelon, the thug dropped it on the road and jumped on a waiting motorcycle and sped off towards Kirigime in southern division, Kabale municipality.

The two victims were accompanied by their daughter one Ainembabazi and their worker identified as Dennis Bensigensi who were not injured.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesman speaking to our reporter said that nothing else has been established to have been taken by the assailant.

Two cartridges of SMG rifle were recovered at the scene. Watermelon was also recovered at the scene. Investigations are under way.

 This case has been registered at Kabale police under file number police SD 86/14/8/2018.
