Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa called for calm as opposition supporters clashed with police ahead of the announcement of this week's presidential election results.

Footage appeared to show the sound of gunshots and angry protesters were seen tearing down a huge billboard depicting Mnangagwa in central Harare on Wednesday.

The army has arrived in the capital to calm any unrest after the Zanu-PF party stormed to victory in the country's first election since Robert Mugabe was ousted as leader.

The ruling party won a majority of two-thirds majority in the National Assembly of parliament. Opposition supporters have accused them of rigging the election.
