{UAH} Cost of confirming Kavanuagh
Folks;
By the slimmest margin (52-48) in over a 130 years, Judge Brett Kavanaugh is now headed to the US Supreme Court. When he's sworn-in next week, he'll become the 9th Justice.
But, at what cost is he ascending to the highest court in the land? And who will pay the price for his confirmation? Here is how I would appropriate the costs:
1) Kavanaugh himself - Kavanaugh displayed a disturbing level of disqualifying conduct during his confirmation hearing. He openly let known his contempt for Democrats; yet, as a federal judge, he was expected to remain (politically) neutral.
Now that he's in, will Justice Kavanaugh work towards mending fences with Liberals, even if it irks his Conservative benefactor? Chief Justice John Roberts has at times, "disappointed" his republican appointing authorities, as did former Justice John Paul Stevens and David Soutter.
2) Senate Majority Leader - Mitch McConnell has shown again that he has no regard to objectivity that his office demands. He sees power as a tool to exert maximum benefit and glory, irrespective of what it takes to achieve it.
He may count 2 Supreme Court confirmations under his belt, but he lost the respect and trust of a vast majority of Americans who see through his plain disregard for due process in national affairs, and his contempt for a woman victim of sexual assault.
3) FBI - Once again, the FBI finds itself enmeshed in a questionable investigation. How possibly can the FBI convince the American people that it operates as an independent agency, when it allowed itself to be directed by the White House in this supplementary investigation?
By taking directives, and obeying the limitations set by the White House, the FBI also surrendered its claim to objectivity and neutrality, and is now more of a department of the White House.
4) Women and victims of sexual assaults - This is the group that has lost the most. The hurdle they must now overcome, in order for them to be believed, has been ridiculously raised too high for them.
It's no longer enough for a woman to be believed that she's been sexually assaulted; she's now required to provide so much detail about the time and place of the attack, that would escape even the owner of the place - what's the color of the bed cover? what is the color of wall? Or, many light bulbs were in the bathroom vanity?
Folks, as I'd feared here last, Kavanaugh has been confirmed, because the GOP has the numbers.
But, I still maintain that while he may be qualified as a Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Kavanaugh lacks the judicial temperament and political neutrality to hold that position.
