Guevara's eyes were opened to the harsh realities of capitalism for those born less privileged than him when, as a medical student in his early 20s, he hopped on a motorcycle and went on a tour of South America.
He found disease, destitution and illiteracy.
From that point on, he labored to uplift the working class from Cuba to Guatemala to the Congo.
During his tenure, he stressed the importance of literacy.
He set up schools and educational institutes - raising the literacy rate 55% to 96%.
The illiterate masses were transformed into literate ones, and although his death was premature, 50 years later his legacy still continues to serve as an inspiration and his vision still continues to fight many revolutionary.
