{UAH} CONGRATULATIONS TO FELIX TSHISEKEDI AND THE PEOPLE OF CONGO DRC

I would like to congratulate candidate Felix Tshisekedi on being officially declared the provisional winner in the Democratic Republic of Congo presidential elections. After taking on the role and legacy of his father the late Congolese opposition icon Etienne Tshisekedi (RIP), I hope that Felix will uphold his fathers legacy and the values of peace, freedom, development, public integrity and national self-determination that for decades he struggled for in the interest of the people of Congo. This is a momentous occasion particularly when we remember that it is likely to be the first peaceful transfer of power ever in the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo since independence. I therefore congratulate outgoing president Joseph Kabila for enabling this fundamental historic step forward, and establishing an electoral commission plus an election whose credibility and neutrality have been fully tested today.
