{UAH} Fw: Invitation to the Ugandan Diaspora Community Heart Health Online Forum

Please join us for the
HEART HEALTH AND WELLNESS
FORUM
Heart disease continues to be one of the leading causes of death for men and women. Migrant populations such as our Ugandan Diaspora community have been shown to be at a higher risk and despite tremendous progress made in identifying the risk factors and health behaviors associated with this disease, there is still prevailing lack of awareness and utilization of preventative healthcare resources.

Some of the risk factors more prevalent in immigrant communities include elevated blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, smoking, lower physical activity, obesity, and socioeconomic stressors.

The good news is, heart disease can be prevented when people make healthy life choices. This online forum will increase awareness on heart disease, associated risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol in addition to strategies for risk factor reduction.

Action steps we can take include focusing on the ABCS of heart health, asking health care professionals about taking aspirin, setting goals to manage blood pressure and cholesterol, stopping smoking, exercising at least 30 minutes a day, eating a heart-healthy diet that is high in fresh fruits and vegetables and low in sodium, saturated and trans fat, and cholesterol.

Please join us and participate in the Ugandan Diaspora Health Network Online Forum on Saturday to learn more about Heart Health.
