{UAH} Pojim/MzeeOcaya/Ocen/Allan/Gwokto et al : Why MPs Are Skipping DP William Ruto's Functions

Jubilee MPs have been avoiding Deputy President William Ruto in the past weeks because of his recent outbursts         targeting ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, Nation reports
  • The DP is seen as criticizing the handshake given his renewed onslaught against the former Prime Minister.

The myriad of corruption issues that Ruto is facing could also be another reason why legislators have given him a wide berth.

MPs who have been supporting the DP's 2022 presidential bid have been staying away from his functions of late.

A fortnight ago, Ruto was the main guest at a memorial service in honour of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.

Legislators who are allied to the DP normally turn up for such events in large numbers and take turns in drumming up support for him.

However, most local MPs including; Anthony Kiai (Mukurweini), Gichuki Mugambi (Othaya) and Mwangi Gichuhi (Tetu) skipped the event and explained that they were engaged in private family matters.

Members of his Tanga Tanga team have also been missing his functions, never mind the fact that they were receiving allowances.

On March 1, Ruto lashed out at the former Prime Minister for exaggerating figures in relation to the money that was meant for the construction of two dams in Elegyo-Marakwet.

"You told Kenyans that if you lost elections you are going to cook mandazis in Kibra. Why are you not cooking mandazis? Why are you importing mandazi economics to the government?" Ruto posed.

He further accused Odinga of driving a narrative that every government initiative was marred with corruption.

On Sunday, Ruto accused the opposition leader of misleading the public in regards to a Mitsubishi Pajero that he handed to Kisumu Catholic Archbishop Philip Anyolo during his installation.

"Understandably Empowering the church offends magicians and the evil spirits they worship. Shetani ashindwe!" Ruto tweeted.

His post sparked mixed reactions from netizens, quite a number asked him to desist from using foul language.
