{UAH} Ugandan Gov’t Frees Rwandan Arrested For Loitering Around CMI Offices and Illegal Entry to Uganda

The Uganda government has had in custody a Rwandan national, who was arrested by security operatives last year after he was found loitering near an installation of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence.

Moses Ishimwe Rutare was today arraigned before Fiona Angula, the Nakawa Grade one magistrate today but was later granted a Shs 2 million cash bail. His two sureties were asked to pay a non-cash bail.

The matter was adjourned to April, 1 .

While addressing the media, Rutare's lawyer, Daniel Walyemera said that his client was arrested in Bugolobi by security operatives as he reportedly lingered near a Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence installation.

"When they asked him to identify himself, he could not and was arrested,"Walyemera said.

He added that Ishimwe had entered Uganda in October 2018 before being arrested in December, noting that his stay in Uganda was legal because citizens from East African member states are allowed six months stay.

This incident comes at a time when Rwanda and Uganda are at loggerheads over several issues.
