{UAH} CAN SOMEONE HERE VERIFY THIS?
By PN Ankunda
I was listening to Super FM this morning in their news a voice clip of one man played (I was travelling I didn't get the name clearly for I wasn't attentive).
He ridiculed the acquisition of only two aircraft yet Amin left 12 aircraft. And demanded that H.E YK Museveni.
I don't know why we find comfort and refuge in ignorance!!
The Ugandan airline Amin left started with one Boeing 707 that was delivered in late 1970 and second Boeing 707-320C entered the fleet in 1981. These carried between 140 to 189 passengers. Today no Boeing 707 are in commercial operations. The last one in air was 2015.
In attempt to revive Uganda airline (the flying crane), Uganda received 2 Bombadier CRJ900 carries 70 to 90 each. This means it carries roughly 79 passengers. If they are two, it is 97x2= 194 passengers. And the Uganda airline of 1976 May started with Boeing 707 that carried 140 to 189 souls.
Important to note, Uganda Airlines was founded as a subsidiary of the government-owned Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) in May 1976 as a replacement of the services previously operated by East African Airways. It commenced operations in 1977, when Uganda Aviation Services (UAS), set up by British United Airways in 1965 but then a UDC subsidiary, was absorbed by Uganda Airlines, taking over the UAS route network.
Expecting other 2 Airbus, the A330-800 in Dec 2020 which can hold 257 passengers each in a typical 3-class configuration. On the other hand, up to 406 passengers can occupy the A330-800 in a high-density configuration. This will be a good move.
And what we should not forget is that not all the 12 aircraft you are talking about were all Boeing, some were smaller than even CRJ900 like Twin Otter and Cessna 402B etc.
Therefore Ugandans who were born to oppose everything these are facts you need to know before we label you ignorant. Uganda airline in 1976 was replacing East African airway with ready routes. It was necessary to start with a such big carrier. Our two aircraft will start with regional flights it is wise to start small. Let's always find facts before we oppose. Museveni is a wise man that every decision he makes is always backed up by facts and reasonable research.
