{UAH} How Africans die, is a socking experience!

This one young man sits around floor tile sellers at Nakasero.
Normally customers will inquire if floor tile sellers know a good and
professional floor tile layer – that is how he gets his customers for
a one or two days work to earn and feed his family of four; Him, wife
and two daughters 2 and 1.3 years.

Sometimes it is a long wait particularly now that the building boom
has substantially slowed down.

Bad luck does not wait for a poor man. Recently, his wife falls
terribly sick, they try a nearby medical centre that fails to heal the
wife. Eventually the wife is admitted at Nsambya a rather very
expensive hospital but what is seemingly specialized enough to handle
the ailment. In just a few weeks all the young man's savings have been
eaten away forcing him to move the wife out of the hospital back to
the village – yes to die in pain and sadness.

The children are shifted to the young man's sisters.

Just my own experience when Keroi Nalongo, my beloved grandma lost her
sight for almost a year, when I was away in Europe. There were no
mobile phones or mobile money. When I arrived here in the early 80s I
was so distressed, she could not see me despite her raising hands to
touch me. I struggled to find who would help immediately; I had only
a three weeks holiday.

Luck struck when I was directed to a young beautiful eye doctor who
after negotiating the price, fixed a date (just a day) to fix the
eyes. I picked my elderly grand right away that evening booked her in
at Mengo Hospital the lady eye doctor had firmly promised me to
restore the sight.

The operation took two days, one day for each eye and in those two
days my grandma could see me in reality.

How Africans die, is a socking experience.
