Son of Mohammed Al-Madani, who was a military leader during February revolution in 2011 in Zintan, Ibrahim Al-Madani, said Khalifa Haftar's general command asked him to assassinate Moammar Gaddafi's son Saif Al-Islam who was jailed in the city, offering him money and guarantees in return.

In a video published by local media outlets on Sunday, Al-Madani said he was surprised to receive such an offer when he was visiting eastern Libya to advocate for national reconciliation and propose it to Haftar.

"This offer was made to other military officers including the commander of Abu Baker Al-Siddiq brigade in Zintan, Al-Ajami Al-Atiri, whose brigade was guarding Saif Gaddafi in his prison. Al-Atiri rejected the offer." Al-Madani added.

He also said that the offer of Haftar's general command shows their intention to seize power in Libya by killing their political opponents, adding that such a thing is not going to happen as Libya will only be stable via national reconciliation.

"National reconciliation project which I proposed to Haftar aims to bring together all Libyan parties, including Misrata, Zintan, Haftar's forces and Saif Gaddafi." Al-Madani said.

According to observers, Haftar's relationship with former regime's loyalists have started to break up, especially after the killing of General Masoud Al-Dawi, a senior leader at the Tribes Army that is loyal to Haftar.
