{UAH} 'Honeytrap' killer who murdered teenage boy in Croydon freed from jail and deported

Dan Bwanika/ Frank Mujabi,

See the effect of the collapse of the black family, which today is single parent headed by a mother, has no father, and boys grow up without a father figure or good male role model. The social welfare state, rather than rescuing the black people from poverty, has had the opposite result- of destroying the role of the father and in the process completely destroying the black family. There is no point deporting this young girl to Trinidad. At 25 years now, she has lived almost all her life in the UK, knows nobody in Trinidad- so what is she going to do there? Senseless crimes like this, borne out of youth disaffection, should be treated  with sympathy, with rehabilitation being the aim, rather than with the strong arm of the law.

Samantha Joseph lured Shakilus to his death

A murderer who lured her boyfriend to be killed by a gang in Croydon has been freed from jail and deported.

Shakilus Townsend was just 16-years-old when he was taken to Beulah Crescent, Thornton Heath by Samantha Joseph, the 15-year-old girl he was smitten with, before being ambushed by love rival Danny McLean and his gang in 2008 .

He was stabbed six times and beaten with baseball bats.

Joseph, from Brockley, was sentenced to 10 years in jail but has now served that time and was recently freed.

The Parole Board has confirmed the killer has been deported to her native Trinidad.

A source told Mirror Online : "At least she's not been able to stay here after committing such a terrible crime."

The Parole Board found Joseph struggled to "manage emotions" which led to a "lasting impact on her approach to relationships, low self-esteem, and her way of life and "antisocial" friends.

On Friday (May 10) a spokesman confirmed she had been released following a hearing behind bars.

He said: "Parole Board decisions are solely focused on whether a prisoner would represent a significant risk to the public.

"The panel will have carefully looked at any evidence of behaviour change. We do that with great care and public safety is our number one priority."

Killer 'set up' murder

Before he was killed, Shakilus thought he was going to meet Joseph's cousin, but Joseph had instead delivered him to McLean and members of the then-infamous Shine My Nine gang who carried out the brutal crime .

The notorious 'honey trap' murder horrified the community of South London and made headlines across the UK.

During the trial at the Old Bailey in 2009, the court heard how Shakilus had been in month-long relationship with Joseph behind the back of her 18-year-old boyfriend McLean.

Shakilus had confided in his mother that he was smitten with the girl and said she was his future wife.

But the schoolgirl told friends she was "never really bothered" by Shakilus although he would "do anything for her".

The court heard that McLean dumped her when he found out about her relationship with Shakilus but she was prepared to do anything to get him back.

McLean told her: "If you still love me, will you set up Shak?" and Joseph agreed.

Love rival 'armed to the teeth'

CCTV footage from the day of the murder showed her meet with Shakilus and take a bus with him.

McLean was "armed to the teeth" waiting for his love rival, it was said.

He had a knife , while a friend of his had a baseball bat and all were hooded with bandanas.

The court heard the teenager was badly beaten and knifed several times and left bleeding in the street, crying out for his mother and saying: "I don't want to die."

All teens accused of Shakilus' killing were given a custodial sentence – including Joseph.

Joseph, from Brockley, was sentenced to 10 years in jail and McLean of Woodville Road, in Thornton Heath, was given 15 years.

Andre Thompson, 17, from Norwood, south-east London, was given a minimum of 14 years.

The other four gang members, Andre Johnson-Haynes, 18, from Croydon, south London; brothers Tyrell Ellis, 19, and Don-Carlos Ellis, 18, of Thornton Heath; and Michael Akinfenwa, 18, from Norwood, were given sentences of at least 12 years.

Attacker 'reformed himself'

In 2017, MyLondon reported that Thompson, who lived in Alexandra Place, one of a gang of youths found guilty of murdering the 16-year-old, had his jail term cut by a top judge.

Thompson, who was just 17 at the time of the murder, was ordered to serve at least 14 years behind bars after he was found guilty in an Old Bailey trial in September 2009.

Andre Thompson had his sentence reduced

Now 25, he made a bid to have his earliest release date brought forward by asking a judge at The Court of Appeal in December 2017.

Mr Justice Julian Knowles said Thompson had put his gang past behind him and made "exceptional progress" after being locked up, so he ruled his minimal jail term should be cut to 13 years and three months.

Thompson reportedly began serving his sentence with a "pro-gangs" attitude, but has since reformed himself.

"He has taken a number of positive steps, not just to reform himself, but to work so as to tackle the problem of gang violence more widely," Mr Justice Julian Knowles said.
