{UAH} In the mid 70's, Kazo had substantial Security Personnel in all Services!

By Dennis katungi.

Most people think that Kazo became established in Security circles with the advent of bush war fighters (Abasonga) emanating from there! Not true. We were already on the Security sector map.

In the mid 70's, Kazo had substantial Security Personnel in all Services!

Kavigi an Infantry man & Rubareba his brother sons of Ndereya Rwakazairwe were in Amin's Airforce. Katuuku brother of Kabura served both UA & NRA. Barbara Kyabihende sister of Late Brig Taban was in State Research. The first ever revolver I saw was in her handbag.

John Tumusime karokora was in police fire brigade with late Rwakarongo & Katiga brother of Kakamba in Kanoni. Kakamba rose be Uganda's Dep Ambassodor to India. Late Mutabura who died recently as well as Bishop Muhanguzi were in Prisons Service then. Mzee Rubakuba father of current CDF was a senior police Officer with a home in Omungari b4 relocating to Mbarara.

Gen John Mateka was a Capt in UA and his home was in Rugongi Mitooma b4 relocating to Ntungamo.

We had Kutesa Rupapira a Police Sgt, Constable Kenneth Bushara, s/o the Late Musa Muhindi & Amos Mukibi then an NCO in the Airforce...I think he rose to Lt. Col & is still serving in UPDAF.

There was Lt. Peter Munyaruguru of UArmy then based in Masaka. We had CID Officer Henry Katungi father of Col. Keith. Henry had a brother who was an Airforce Flight Engineer killed by Maryamungu in 1971.

I remember Idi Amin having addressed a raly in Kazo flew by Chopper to Bugarihe, Mzee Kabutiti's home to commiserate with him on the loss of his son, Harold Byakagaba, a Russian trained Airman.

We had Supretendant of Prisons Katambuuka who rose to OC Upper Prison Luzira.

Another gentleman I saw in Customs Uniform was Preventive Officer Nathan Katamba Rwabazingo then based in Oraba in West Nile. He very much looked like the pple from Koboko although he was a local guy from Bwengara, Kazo!😀.

Then there was Superitendant of Police Bwasisi, son of Rwakasente. He was killed in Mbale in the 1978 War. Another Police Officer was Kakono from Burunga.

I don't know how Superitendant Katambuuka handled his cousin the late Nathan Ruyondo father of Col Lumumba & Kwame.

As a Political Prisoner he spent some years in Luzira when Obote jailed him for aiding Rebel M7's escape to the bush! The late Ruyondo's Peogeot had been recovered soon after the Kabamba attack & he was counted lucky to be jailed rather than summarily executed! At that time he was Town Clerk in Masaka.

Then there's the story of the remarkable Elizabeth Kabutiti, it was said she was the top-most student in Ug from Gayaza High Sch in those days. She went on to study Economics/ Statistics @ Makerere & got headhunted by Bank of Uganda having attained a 1st Class degree.

She was the only female graduate in the area that I had heard of. Eventually, she wound up as Dep Head @ the African Dev Bank.
