{UAH} Joy Morgan: Missing student ‘murdered by fellow churchgoer who she saw as father figure’

Ikanos/

Can Christianity survive with all these scandals wallowing all over it, threatening to swallow it? The Church has become the bastion for criminality and barbarity. Nowadays, if anyone introduces me to a person they call "saved", I try to avoid them, because I know in 9 out 10 times, i am being introduced to a thug.. Just try to compare Christians and Atheists in terms of their moral standing and behaviour and adherence to the truth.. There isn't anything to compare- because Atheists are way up and above christianity and every other religion in terms of the moral standards they uphold.. Atheists dont want to deceive anyone. They want the world to look at the reality around it, and to come up with solutions based on those problems, not some imaginary ideas from  above our heads or the skies.

Joy Morgan: Missing student 'murdered by fellow churchgoer who she saw as father figure'

Missing: Joy Morgan
Missing: Joy Morgan ( Hertfordshire Constabulary )

A midwifery student was murdered by a "dishonest and manipulative" fellow churchgoer who she viewed as a father figure, a court has heard.

Joy Morgan, 20, has not been seen or heard from since Boxing Day and a body has never been found.

Shohfah-El Israel, a 40-year-old man who attended her church, was accused of killing her between December 26 and December 30 2018.

Both he and Ms Morgan frequented the Israel United in Christ church in IlfordReading Crown Court heard.

The court heard the church rules included a ban on pre-marital sex as well as women left in the company of men other than their husbands.

The student, who was in her second year at the University of Hertfordshire, was last seen at the church in Hainult Street on Boxing Day.

Prosecutor Mark Fenhalls QC told the jury that Ms Morgan "did not have the easiest relationship" with her family and that the church, which she joined in January 2016, had become "the centrepiece of her personal life".

Mr Fenhalls said she was a "positive and happy young woman" and that the evidence indicated she had been content at the church, where she worshipped regularly and helped to run a children's group.

Israel, whose birth name is Ajibola Shogbamimu, also attended the Israel United in Christ church with his wife, the court heard.

The couple, who had addresses in both Cricklewood and Luton, had befriended Ms Morgan, giving her lifts in his Honda car between her student accommodation in Hatfield and the church.

Ms Morgan's house keys were found in Mr Israel's car when it was searched in February, the court heard (Hertfordshire Constabulary )

Phone messages between Israel and Ms Morgan showed that she referred to him as a father figure.

One message sent in January 2018 read: "I really do appreciate how you treat me like a daughter. From the beginning I have struggled with not have a father in this truth because I came in soo young.

"I understand i have spiritual fathers but you treat me like i am your blood daughter (sic)."

Ms Morgan was reported to police as missing by her mother on February 7 this year and Israel was arrested two days later.

He initially told police he dropped Ms Morgan off at her student accommodation in Hatfield after a church event on December 26.

Later he said he in fact brought her back to his flat in Cricklewood where she stayed on the sofa for two nights before he claimed he drove her back to Hatfield, Mr Fenhalls said.

The prosecutor, who said what happened in the intervening hours is "at the heart" of the case, added: "The Crown's case is that he is one of those people who lies whenever he thinks he can get away with it.

Mr Fenhalls said: "The Crown says he is a thoroughly dishonest and manipulative man."

Ms Morgan's number was removed from a Telegram chat group - consisting of church members - on the evening of December 28.

Her phone, which has never been found, was detected in the defendant's car in the Stevenage area on that day.

Mr Fenhalls said the prosecution case is she was dead at this point and Israel was "perhaps looking for somewhere to dispose of the body".

Two calls were made from Ms Morgan's phone to the NHS Direct 111 service on the evening of December 28 but a transcript showed no words were spoken.

Mr Fenhalls said no forensic evidence had been recovered which would help the jury reach any conclusions about "how or where or when she died".

Israel, 40, of Cricklewood, north London, denies a single charge of murder.

The trial continues. .
