{UAH} Dad's Army: the classic sitcom that refuses to surrender

Dad's Army is considered  the best comedy ever written. It follows the Walmington-On-Sea Home Guard (part time soldiers) during the course of WW2. The platoon is led by the pompous Captain Mainwaring, the local bank manager, and the public school educated Sergeant Wilson.

With a German invasion looming, the defence of Walmington-on-Sea rests in the hands this motley collection of volunteers in the Home Guard unit. Despite being woefully ill-equipped, the rag-tag crew is ready to take on Hitler and his invading troops from across the Channel.

The Series was first aired on 31 July 1968, and run on weekly until its final episode on 13 November 1977.  It is still repeated on prime time TV every Saturday up to today, making it the longest running  TV programme in TV history.

Dad's Army is a celebration of the British bull dog spirit and the willingness of ordinary people to make sacrifices in the national  interest, accompanied by an unwavering  determination never to surrender to an enemy under any circumstances, whatever the odds.

As three long-lost 'Dad's Army' episodes are remade, we put the UK's enduring love for this most British of creations under the microscope
