{UAH} Today's journey will take us back to Asia to the ancient kingdom called Syria

Today's journey will take us back to Asia to the ancient kingdom called Syria. People normally hear about Syria only in the Bible especially their wars with the Israelites but there is more, a lot more to the country than meets the eye. And today we will tell you a few things that may interest you.

1) Syria is the 87th largest county in the world by landmass but the population is a little over 18million mainly because of the violence, but this means that if you want free land you may want to go to Syria.

2) The capital City is Damascus, the legendary city that is mostly remembered for Saul's conversion to Christianity. But it is also the second oldest inhabited city in the world.

3) The Golan Heights found in Syria is a plateau which overlooks four countries, the only plateau in the world with that many surrounding countries.

4) The first ever murder actually occurred in Syria. That's right, it was on mount Qasioun near Damascus that Cain murdered Abel.

5) The Syrian civil war has been on since 2011 with well over one million dead citizens and hundreds of millions currently lost or displaced, the worst civil war ever.

6) The Syrian war is the most complex war in the world with over 34 countries participating in the war. In 2015, the US completed their 9000th airstrike on Syria, a war record!!

7) Syria and Egypt used to be one country, that is why the Syrian flag has two stars, to represent the union between Egypt and Syria. We don't know why they still have the two stars since it didn't work out.

8) Syrians started drinking beer since 2500BC!!! In fact, in present day Syria, it is the government that controls the beer industry so it can be cheap.

9) The fourth holiest place in Islam is the Umayyad Mosque, located in Damascus. It also is home to the mausoleum containing the tomb of King Saladin, as well as the Shrine of John the Baptist.

10) The idea of civilisation actually started in Syria but it seems as though the present age has abandoned the old ways.

That's all we have today. Join us on UAH forums for more
